General Overview

Stuart P. Krauskopf founded The Law Offices of Stuart P. Krauskopf, P.C. in January 2005, after nineteen years of private practice.  He has over 26 years of experience in both corporate transactions and general litigation. Stuart serves as outside general counsel to several large corporations.  He has tried cases in areas of personal injury defense, general corporate, insurance coverage, insurance regulation, products liability defense, professional liability and general civil cases.  Stuart and his firm are listed in Martindale Hubbell’s Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.  He was honored as an Illinois Super Lawyer and has received other awards as a result of his legal work.   

From 1995 through 2005, Stuart was an equity partner at Fagel Haber which was a general practice firm. There, he specialized in all aspects of corporate and litigation related work.  Prior to this, he worked at a large insurance defense firm where he participated in jury trials in the areas of products liability and insurance coverage. 
 
From 1998 through 2000, he served as National Counsel for one of the country's largest health and fitness companies which included: overseeing case handling by outside counsel; handling all personal injury defense cases in and around the Chicago area; working with claims personnel in the area of risk management; and creating policies and procedures for case handling.

In 2003, Stuart served as lead trial counsel for the Illinois Director of Insurance in a three month trial in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, wherein the Director sought the liquidation of Legion Indemnity Company ("Legion"). He obtained a successful verdict, which resulted in the liquidation of Legion, with a finding of insolvency.  He was also was lead counsel in contested liquidation proceedings involving two other insurance carriers.  These companies agreed to their liquidation on the eve of trial.  Thereafter, Stuart's practice concentrated in various areas of post-liquidation work.  He also performed work for receivers in jurisdictions outside of Illinois in the area of asset recovery.

Stuart has also been very active in the area of professional responsibility.  For over two years, he served as the conflicts/ethics partner at his former firm, overseeing all aspects of professional responsibility for this 55-attorney law firm.  Additionally, he is the founder and former Chair of the Committee on Prevention of Attorney Malpractice and Case Handling, sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association.

Stuart has vast experience in the area of counseling and advising businesses with respect to their daily operations. Although his firm is relatively small, it serves as outside general counsel to several large and small companies.

Stuart was admitted to practice in Illinois in 1985.  He is licensed to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana.  He is an active member in several organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the International Association of Insurance Receivers.
